If you are a caregiver or know someone who is, The Twenty-Third Psalm for Caregivers is the book for you. Author, Carmen Leal, familiar with the unique fabric of caregiving, threads a personal touch through her book, demonstrating she understands the heart of those who so selflessly pour from their lives into another. Following the example of our Heavenly Shepherd, Leal tenderly reinforces the message within the twenty-third Psalm. Using true stories, quotes and scriptures, Leal reminds readers that while trials are inevitable God is with them through every step of every trial. He is their abiding comfort. This beautiful hardcover book, written especially as encouragement for those who care for ill loved ones, covers the well-known Psalm 23. With each section of the Psalm, empathetic and inspiring stories, quotes and scriptures are a gift of hope to the reader. The author shares her own journey through her husband's debilitating disease, through the painful decisions she made as the disease progressed, with honesty and stark faith. Then, she gathers together other caregivers’ stories of courageous, comforting blessings, balm for the journey, sharing what it is like walking through the valley of the shadow with a loved one. Several years ago I found myself in a caregiving situation. Thankfully, there was a happy ending and my husband is fine today. During my caregiving days I would have loved to have had the encouragement and hope that is packed in The Twenty-Third Psalm for Caregivers. When you are going through life and death situations, followed by the drudgery of the day-to-day routine, it's easy to feel isolated.

I could identify with the scriptures, quotes, stories, and hymns in this book and I know other caregivers will too. Out of my caregiving came a new direction for my life and the God Allow s U Turns series was born. I know firsthand the power of personal experience stories and how effective they are at comforting and encouraging those in need.

Many caregivers will pick up this book because it's for caregivers and they are familiar with the twenty-third psalm. If they are not already Christians, I believe the tone of this book will lead some of those caregivers to Christ. The lessons learned in The Twenty-Third Psalm for Caregivers are universal to all caregivers and I pray it is not only published but distributed around the world.

Maybe you're thinking, "This book really isn't for me; I'm not a caregiver." But all of us know a caregiver somewhere who needs to be encouraged. And at some time in our lives perhaps many of us will find ourselves in the position of a caregiver for weeks, months, years, or even decades. Someone we love may become disabled or diagnosed with a debilitating illness, helpless, weak, in need of constant care, and we may be the one God chooses to be His hands and feet, to bring love and care, help and nurture.

Full of encouragement, hope, and tender affirmation for caregivers, The Twenty-Third Psalm for Caregivers will touch the heart and lift the head of those who pour themselves out for others. In an often thankless and unending job, Carmen's beautiful book is a kiss, a warm hug, and a welcome reminder that you are not alone; The Shepherd sees you, will lead you, will empower you, and will Himself restore your own weary soul.

The Shepherd's Psalm is one of the best-loved passages of Scripture. It's especially poignant for caregivers, those selfless souls who comfort, bathe, feed, and, yes, care for those who, for whatever reason, cannot care for themselves. Leal knows the seemingly thankless occupation well, and writes from a heart that has cried out to the Great Caregiver. This beautifully written and illustrated gift book will encourage anyone walking through this difficult valley.
